Benefits of rapeseed oil
Rapeseed Oil is one of the healthiest oils you can use in your kitchen. It boasts fantastic health benefits including having less than half the saturated fat of olive oil, more than 10 times the amount of Omega 3 (one of your essential fatty acids) and it is also high in Vitamin E which the body uses to help maintain healthy skin and eyes and strengthen the body's natural defence against illness and infection.
Rapeseed Oil also has a high smoke point which means that you can use this oil from Cold Salads to Pan Frying and Roasting.
What is cold pressing?
The basis of Cold Pressing is to remove the oil from the seed without adding any heat or chemicals, thus it is the most natural way of extracting the oil.
The seed which is harvested in the surrounding fields is brought into the barn and loaded into a hopper. It is from here that an auger brings the seed to the press, which tears the seed open and squeezes the oil out. The now free oil trickles into a crude oil tank in our clean room and the rest of the seed husk (known as cake or meal) is extruded out of the front of the press and is collected. This product is then sold to local cattle farmers and used as a high protein feed for their herd.
The oil that has been squeezed from the press is now recirculated through a filter which removes any traces of seed husk that has come through from the press.
Once we have taste tested the oil and checked that the oil is clear enough, it is passed through a secondary filter and on into a clean oil tank.
It is at this point that the oil shows off its stunning rich golden colour.
From here, the oil is bottled, capped, labelled and packaged ready for delivery to one of our many retailers, pubs and restaurants.
The benefit of using the traditional method of cold pressing is that we ensure that nothing is added or taken away from the natural oil. The result is a deliciously flavoured, versatile oil which is completely free of chemicals and additives.
